Michan
Architecture is a studio based in Mexico City founded in 2010. The practice
explores architecture as a speculative discipline, testing new spatial,
material, and cultural possibilities.
The work of Michan Architecture has been widely published, exhibited, and internationally recognized. The studio has been included in Architectural Digest México y Latinoamérica’s AD100 list and recognized by The Architect’s Newspaper through its Best of Practice Awards. The practice has also been honored with The Architectural League of New York’s prestigious League Prize for Young Architects + Designers, an award established to recognize exemplary and provocative work by emerging practices in North America, and was selected as a Design Vanguard by Architectural Record, a distinction highlighting innovative practices that are shaping the future of the built environment.
Among its awarded projects, DL1310 Apartment Building received the Progressive Architecture Award from Architect Magazine as well as an Honor Award from AIA New York, while Z53 Social Housing was recognized with an Architizer Award for excellence in affordable housing. Through its built work, research, and design explorations, Michan Architecture has established an international presence and continues to contribute to contemporary architectural discourse and practice.
The work is driven by a search for conceptual clarity and material innovation. Responding to the specific realities of each project while pursuing new possibilities, the practice engages the physical, cultural, and economic dynamics shaping a broad range of environments.
The studio won the competition for Scenic Garden / Jardín Escénico in Bosque de Chapultepec. Scenic Garden / Jardín Escénico is the studio’s first arts and culture commission and has since received several recognitions, including Expansión’s Most Innovative Project of the Year and Architectural Digest México y Latinoamérica’s “Iconos del Diseño.”
The practice was founded by Isaac Michan and is led by Isaac together with Alexandra Bové.
Isaac Michan – Founding Partner & Principal
An architect, designer, and educator, Isaac Michan understands that culture and context are no longer tied to a single place or origin. As Founding Partner of Michan Architecture, Isaac oversees the design and construction phases of projects, striving to create architecture that is at once visionary, contextual, and deeply human while fulfilling and exceeding client expectations.
He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Universidad Iberoamericana, with additional studies at RMIT and a Master of Science in Architecture from Pratt Institute. He is currently a professor at Universidad CENTRO and has previously taught at Universidad Iberoamericana, Universidad Anáhuac, and the Architectural Association (AA) Visiting School.
Isaac regularly participates in lectures, workshops, and academic juries at universities and institutions internationally and serves on the Academic Technical Council of Universidad Intercontinental in Mexico City.
Alexandra Bové – Partner & Principal
Alexandra Bové joined Michan Architecture in 2022 and is a Partner and Principal of the practice. A trained architect, her work explores the relationship between materiality, light, atmosphere, and construction. Her approach is informed by careful attention to detail, the sensory qualities of materials, and the capacity of architecture to create meaningful connections between people and place.
Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master’s Degree in Construction Science from the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB). Prior to joining Michan Architecture, she worked at Liebman Villavecchia Arquitectos in Barcelona, where she contributed to the design and development of a range of residential projects.
As Partner and Principal, Alexandra oversees the design and development of projects across the practice, contributing to Michan Architecture’s ongoing exploration of architecture as a material, cultural, and spatial discipline.
